TEACHERS OF DISTINCTION: The South Monroe County Community Fund will host its inaugural Teachers of Distinction Awards May 3 at 1 p.m. at the Elkin Theatre.

ART SHOW: Aberdeen High School’s gifted arts students will hold their annual art show May 4 from 3:30 until 5:15 p.m. at the Elkin Theatre.

NETTLETON CLEAN UP DAY: The City of Nettleton, in conjunction with Keep Mississippi Beautiful, will have its Nettleton Clean Up Day May 6. The citywide cleanup will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church pavilion and end there at 11:30 a.m. Breakfast, lunch, water and garbage bags will be provided.

GOLF TOURNAMENT: A golf tournament benefiting Coy Dabbs will be held May 6 at 10 a.m. at Amory Golf Course. It will consist of four-man teams at $160 per team. Dabbs was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and has been undergoing treatment and awaiting surgery. FISH FRY: Evergreen-Carolina Volunteer Fire Department will have its spring fish fry at the Evergreen Community Center, located approximately eight miles south of Mooreville, May 6 from 3:30 until 7:30 p.m. Plates are $9, and all proceeds support the fire department. Donations are welcome.

RETIREMENT CEREMONY: The Amory School District will host a retirement reception on May 15 from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. at the culinary arts dining room located in the Amory Career & Technical Center, located at 1006 Sam Haskell Dr. Serena Coleman, Ruth Earlean Esters, Rebecca Hudaon, Glenda Keeton, Malinda Luker and Letha Mae Spratt will be honored.

FISH FRY: Bartahatchie Volunteer Fire Department will host a fish fry fundraiser May 27 at the Bartahatchie Community Center from 3 until 7 p.m. Plates are $10 and include fish, hushpuppies, fries, coleslaw, a drink and dessert. CLASS REUNION: Hatley will have an all-class reunion Aug. 12 at the Aberdeen Country Club from 6 p.m. until midnight. People who attended Hatley but didn’t graduate from there are welcomed to attend. Food and fellowship begins at 6, and The Gents will perform from 8:30 until midnight. Tickets are $75 for couples and $45 for singles.
